Mini Police at Holy Family
Dec 2019 - Speed alert!
Mini Police were out in force (pardon the pun!) yesterday, catching and reprimanding speeding vehicles along Marlowe Avenue. This is a 20 mph zone and anyone caught driving at 22mph or above was efficiently pulled over by the PCSO in the middle of the road and spoken to rather sternly by our confident bunch of mini officers.
From this point on, Marlowe Avenue will be free of 'speed offenders'.
Well done Mini Police - good job, well done.

The Big Tidy!
Today, our dedicated team of Mini Police donned their HiViz jackets, their Police caps and and came armed with litter pickers in readiness for The Big Tidy!
We went out into the Community alongside some Neighborhood Wardens (Terry and Leon) and grabbed other's litter with our trusty pickers - all in the aim of tidying up the place we live in. One child found the largest piece of litter ie a huge piece of polystyrene and didn't want to let it go, she was so proud of her clean up job! You know who you are :) Explaining to the children that pumpkin pieces aren't really litter and will decompose was also a challenge as they wanted to get rid of them. The poor wardens suddenly had very heavy bags to carry with Halloween paraphenalia inside!
Our next project will be on the 16th December but the plan is as yet not revealed.

Sorry! No trick or treating here!
This week, our Year 5 Mini Police concentrated on Halloween and the fear that it can bring to our Community. We knocked on doors in Marlowe Avenue in all of our Hi-Viz kit, offering the poster (see photo) to those households who would prefer not to be disturbed on the 31st October. Some households love it and buy all the Haribo they can to give out to 'scary children'. However, some people are more vulnerable, anxious, even frightened of Dracula, a witch or an evil cat knocking on their door and we need to respect that.
Did you know that The Police visit and discourage shops from selling eggs and flour to under 18’s around the Halloween period because it is a tradition for children and young people to throw them at front doors? No, neither did we!
After the Halloween awareness walk, we then met PC Becky who let us try on uniform (weighing 20kgs!) and hold batons and handcuffs. Pepper spray sounds awful and to be avoided at all costs
Watch this space for our next adventure in November...

Tackling community problems such as litter, poor parking choices and safe parks and gardens were some of the priorities given by Holy Family's Mini Police to 2 PCSO's (Police Community Support Officers) yesterday during their initiation into being a voluntary member of Wiltshire's police force.
Emma and Tanya - PCSOs who look after the community around Holy Family School spent all afternoon with 20 Year 5 children who were selected for the 'Force' following an application process.
Following this first session, the Team will go out into the Community once per month until the end of their school year with the aim of making our community a better place to live.
Catching speeding motorists, visiting the elderly in Care homes and a visit to Gablecross Police Station are all on the plans for the coming year and we are very excited to be part of this project.
Watch this space for more photos following our 'work'.
